Design

Most desk organizers consist of a small little letting you put a few things in it. Not every organizer comes with a wireless charger for your device but this one does. The benefit of the design is that this setup lets you see your phone notifications while you work more easily as the screen is facing you instead of having it face up on your desk.

Upon first glance at the Veelink Wireless Charger, you’ll see it’s all bamboo wood with Veelink’s logo engraved at the bottom of the organizer part of the unit. The organizer is on the left side while the charger is on the right side. The charger has it’s own little etched wireless charging logo letting you know to place the phone there. The size of the charger will fit just about any phone. I’ve tested it with the Samsung Galaxy S10, Google Pixel 3 XL, and an iPhone X. All three fit perfectly without overhanging the edges of the charger. Finally, there’s a small LED light at the bottom of the charging dock to indicate charging status.

The back of the unit is pretty much blank other than the Type C port where the cable plugs in. In addition, the sides of the charger are also blank.

As for the actual footprint of the charger on a desk, it’s not bad. My desk is pretty small. It’s 3 1/2 x 1 1/2 feet, so I placed the charging organizer in between my monitors (see gallery) and it didn’t take up much space at all. I had to move some LEGO figures off to the side of the charger, but that space was enough for it to not make a difference. If you have a small desk, there shouldn’t be any issue with the unit taking up too much space.

Ease of Use

When it comes to setting up a wireless charger, you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to figure it out. With the included cable, connect that to an extra power block you have laying around and then plug in the USB Type C end into the Type C port on the back of the Veelink unit. When the unit detects that it is plugged in and receiving power, the LED light will turn blue.

When your phone is ready to be charged, just place it on the charging portion of the unit and the LED will turn green and your compatible phone will start to charge. Once you’re done letting the phone charge or you have to step out for a bit, just pick up your device and head out the door.

Performance

On the performance side of things, each device will charge at a different speed. iPhones 8 and higher will use the 7.5W charge, while Samsung devices will use 10W, and all other Qi charging devices will utilize the 5W option. Unfortunately, there’s no way to tell if the devices are getting that specific wattage rate.

The two Qi charging devices I have is the Samsung Galaxy S10 and the Google Pixel 3 XL. When placing both devices on the wireless charger, a message came up on both phones letting me know they were charging, but only the Galaxy S10 shows that’s it’s “fast charging wirelessly.” The Pixel 3 XL only shows “wirelessly charging” when placed on the wireless charger due to the fact you can only currently get a full 10W wireless charge for the Pixel 3 series with the Pixel Stand.

After testing both devices at 5% battery life, the charging performance was pretty on point with how much time it took to charge the phones. When charging the Galaxy S10, it would show the time until full, i.e. 3 hours, and charge within that time frame.

The Pixel 3 XL had a greater time to charge since it wasn’t receiving a fast charge. The Pixel 3 XL had the slowest charge of the two phones. One charge took 6 hours to complete and the second charge I left overnight to charge up. By morning the phone was fully charged and ready to go.

There was an incident where my Galaxy S10 would get extremely hot while charging. The phone wasn’t in use nor were apps running in the background but Veelink states there’s overheating protection. I repeated the process again with another Galaxy S10 in the house and it also got warmer than usual when charging. However, the Pixel 3 XL didn’t get warm at all. I don’t know if this is an issue with Samsung devices, or due to the charging speed, but this could be an issue for those who don’t want their device to get warm while charging. That being said, the Veelink Bamboo Wireless Charger does come with overheat protection and my S10 never shut off while charging so the temperature was apparently within the acceptable operating range.

If you do have a metal case on your smartphone, it may not charge, requiring you to take the case off. Same for those who might have a pop socket on your device. The device won’t be close enough to receive a charge as the phone will need to be 5mm or closer to the charging coil.

Price/Value

You can find the Veelink Bamboo Wireless Charger organizer on Amazon for US$27.99. For that price, it’s not bad since some OEM wireless chargers by themselves cost around this much and don’t have a small organizer attached to it. Even if you don’t need to place pens, pencils, or whatever in the opening, having the charging dock facing up is worth noting.

Wrap Up

Overall, Veelink’s Wireless Fast Charger with Organizer is pretty neat and gets the job done. It’s small enough that it won’t take up much room on your desk, even if it’s a small one like mine, you can still put this charging organizer on it and be ok. However, I’m not the biggest fan of my Galaxy S10 getting warm while charging when it doesn’t with the Samsung wireless charger.
