New MacBook Air laptops announced with Apple M3 chip

When the Apple MacBook Air was first announced 16 years ago, it was an astonishing accomplishment. When Steve Jobs pulled that slim MacBook Air out of a manila envelope, most people were truly shocked. Not only was this laptop super thin, but it was well-built, looked great and had some impressive specs.

The Air series remained mostly the same for a long time, with many users begging for a refresh. The first refresh was around 2010 where the company tapered the device chassis, but it mostly remained the same. The M1 MacBook Air was the first real major refresh of this platform and it was a hit.

Now, the company has announced the new MacBook Air laptops for 2024. This includes the traditional 13″ Air and the newer 15″ Air. Here is a bit of what Apple’s press release had to say about the new Air’s for 2024.

With M3, the MacBook Air is up to 60 percent faster than the model with the M1 chip and up to 13x faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Air. With a faster and more efficient Neural Engine in M3, the Air continues to be the world’s best consumer laptop for AI.

The 13- and 15-inch Air both feature a strikingly thin and light design, up to 18 hours of battery life, a stunning Liquid Retina display, and new capabilities. These include support for up to two external displays and up to 2x faster Wi-Fi than the previous generation.

With its durable aluminum unibody enclosure that’s built to last, the new MacBook Air is available in four gorgeous colors: midnight, which features a breakthrough anodization seal to reduce fingerprints; starlight; space gray; and silver. Combined with its world-class camera, mics, and speakers; MagSafe charging; its silent, fanless design; and macOS, the MacBook Air delivers an unrivaled experience — making the 13-inch model the world’s bestselling laptop and the 15-inch model the world’s bestselling 15-inch laptop.
